Why it is hard
ISO 8583 is a binary-ish, positional format with bitmaps deciding which fields are present. There is no forgiving parser: one wrong field length and the message is not merely invalid, it is misread as something else entirely.
What I built
A builder and parser engine with the field definitions declared once and validated on both directions, so encoding and decoding could never drift apart. I also developed the APIs integrating with WCF services, and supervised documentation and platform improvements around them.
